Vestibular Therapy

What is the Vestibular System?

The vestibular system is located in your inner ear and has neurological connections to your brain. It allows your body to orientate itself in space, telling you if you are moving, staying still, speeding up or slowing down.

What Happens When There is a Problem?

Injury, infection, neurological disorders or other conditions can lead to dysfunction of the vestibular system. You can experience vertigo, loss of balance, dizziness, nausea, visual changes, hearing loss and other uncomfortable symptoms. If left untreated, these symptoms can be debilitating.

How Can Physical Therapy Help?

In many cases, symptoms of vertigo (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV) can be easily treated in just a few treatment sessions with particular manuevers of the head. If your symptoms are caused from another condition, we can retrain your vestibular system with specific techniques, significantly reducing or eliminating many of the symptoms you are experiencing.
